Annual Report

Annual report
This year's activities of the book lovers' club ('vaksauhradam') formally began with a meeting of its teacher coordinators Smt.Silja Roy and Smt.Naomi Rajan and its student members on 18/06/2018. At the meeting the following members were selected as its office bearers:-
* Sheby Baby, 3rd BA English- secretary
* Malavika M Nair, 2nd BA English- joint secretary
* Karishma Thomas, 1st BA English-1st DC representative

A total of thirteen customary meetings were held over the year in which thirteen students from various batches presented eight different books by different authors and five chatacter presentations from different books.

Book Presentations:

The Club celebrated the Reading day (June 19) and organised several programmes in connection with that.the members of the club decorated the notice board with articles ,quotes,posters,drawings,and short poems.the club also arranged a poster designing competiton 'book to pic' as part of it.the winners of the competition were:-

Basil Simalu Joy - third
The club also organised it's annual book presentation competition,'Vangmayam' separately for English and Malayalam ,in which eighteen students took part.Anu Susan Mathai of third BA English, Samgeetha Zachariah of Second BA English and Akshara Hari of second BA English, andParvathy Raj of second BA English were adjudged winners of the first, second, and third positions of the first, second, and third positions in , English, and Malayalam categories  respectively. The activities of the club formally concluded with the valedictory function organised jointly with the Creative forums in which Sri Balram Ettikkara a very well known lyricist, writer, teacher and former student of the college, delivered a talk on the topic 'Creative writing and appreciation'. Prizes and certificates for the winners of different competitions and the office bearers, certificate of merit for book presenters, active members and all the participants of the book presentation competition were distributed. The evergreen rolling trophy for the best book presenters was awarded to Any Susan Mathai and Parvathy Raj.

Vagrasika 2019

The book lovers club and creative writers forum collaboratively organized a workshop "vagrasika-2019" on 20th February 2019, Tuesday,  in the Ruby Jubilee seminar Hall  at 1.30pm.The programme began with a welcome speech by the baby,  the secretary of the Book Lovers'club. The chief guest, she's Balaram Ettikkara, a very well-known lyricist, writer, teacher, and, a former student of the college, delivered a talk on the topic "creative writing and Appreciation "There after, the prizer for the winners of the Book 'Appreciation competition ' and 'Book to pic ' competition were disturbed. Anu busan Mathai of 3rd BA English  and parvathy Raj of 2nd BA English non the evergreen Ever rolling trophy instituted by the 2010-13 batch of the English department for the best presenters in 'Vaangmayam- 2019'. Certificates were given to all the participants of the book presentation competition, weekly presenters and the active members of the club. Also, the office bearers (2018-19) of the club were given books and certificates as a token of love and appreciation. Finally, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Malavika M Nair, the Joint- Secretary of the Book Lovers' club.

Vangmayam 2019

The Book Lovers' Club organised a Book Appreciation competition "വാങ്മയം 2019" on 29th January 2019,  Tuesday in the Audio-Visual room at 1:00 PM. The competition was held for both English and Malayalam separately. A total of 10 students participated in English and the winners were:

                    The judges for English Book Appreciation competition were Jessy Miss, Rosemol Miss, and Sonia Miss.  
                    A total of 8 students participated in the Malayalam Book Appreciation competition and the judges were Madhu Sir and Sajeev Sir. The winners were:

Meeting (14)

The fourteenth meeting of the Book Lover's club was held on 18th December 2018, Tuesday in the A.V room at 1:00 PM. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Malavika M. Nair of II BA English. Thereafter Aingel Philip of III BA English did a book presentation of the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison. It is a 1987 novel which won the Prize for fiction in 1988. It is an embodiment of all suffering under slavery. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Irin Jiji of III BA English.

Vishnu Vijayan of I BA English presented the book ചിദംബര സ്മരണ by Balachandran Chullikkad, for the book lovers of Poonithura Public Library on 27th October 2018 in Thripunithra Public Library at 5:30 PM. He handled the autobiographical episodes cleverly and skillfully and did justice even to some portions seemingly beyond the percieved limits of sensitivity and morality. He was appreciated for his innate literary acumen, quest for knowledge, and positive attitude. Also as a token of love and gratitude, he was awarded a letter of Appreciation and a book.

Meeting (13)

The thirteenth meeting of the Book Lovers' Club was held on 7th December 2018, Friday in the Audio Visual Room at 1:00 PM. The book presentation of "The Last Girl" by Nadia Murad was done by Irin Jiji of 3rd BA English. The work is  a memoir of an young Yasudi gurl, Nadua, and it reveals her story of captivity and her fight against the ISIS. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Sasikala P. S and concluded with a vote of thanks by Sona Sara Elias of first BA English.

The twelfth meeting of the 'book lovers' club was held on 25th October 2018,Thursday in the Audio-visual room at 1.00 P.M...Samgeetha Zachariah of second B.A English did the book presentation of the work ' The Magic of Thinking Big ' by David .J. Schwartz . It is a self-help book first published in the year 1959.it was published by Wilshire Book Co, Chatsworth , California.The premise of the book is simple' Think Big Live Big'. David Schwartz tells us that we need to upgrade our life.In his eyes success had very little to do with intelligence. He claims that success is determined not so much by the size of one's brain as it is by the size of one's thinking . He offers countless strategies to help as upgrade our thinking . Thereafter ,there was a question-answer session and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks.

The eleventh meeting of the Book Lovers' club was held on 9th October 2018, Tuesday in the Audio-Visual room at 1:00 PM. The book presentation of "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler" was done by Akshara Hari of second B.A. English. It is a 1979 novel by the Italian writer Italo Calvino. The postmodern narrative in the form of a frame story, is about the reader trying to read a book called "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler". Thereafter there was a question-answer session and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Jestin of second B.A. English.

The tenth meeting of the Book Lovers' Club was held on 28th September 2018, Friday in the Audio-Visual room at 1:00 PM. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Sona Sara Ealias of first B.A. English. Thereafter, a character presentation of the character 'Sherlock Holmes' was done by Balkees M.H of the same class. 'Sherlock Holmes' is a fictional character created by the Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The prototype for the modern mastermind detective, Holmes first appeared in Conan Doyle's ''A Study in Scarlet''. Finally, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Krishna Rajeev.

The ninth meeting of the Book Lovers' Club was held on 26th September 2018, Wednesday in the Audio-Visual room at 1:00 PM. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Thomas Binu of first D.C. English. Thereafter, a character presentation of the character 'Harry Potter' was done by Karishma Thomas of first year English. Harry James Potter is the title character and protagonist of J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter series'. The majority of the books' plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Potter, who, on his eleventh birthday learns he is a wizard. Thus he attends Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to practice magic. Finally, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Balkees M.H.

Meeting (8)

The eighth meeting of the book lovers' club was held on 19th September 2018, Wednesday in the Audio-visual room at 1pm. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Anugraha C.K . Thereafter, a character presentation of the character 'Anne Frank', who is a real-life character and also the author of the work "The Diary of a Young Girl", was done by Sona Issac of 1st BA English. Anne Frank is a young Dutch woman of German-Jewish origin. The book begins on Anne's thirteenth birthday, when she recieves a diary as a present from her parents. In her diary,Kitty,she wrote about her fears, feelings, experience, the war,the hiding place and so on. Finally,the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Vishnu Vijayan.

The seventh meeting of the Book Lover's Club was held on 6th September 2018, Thursday in the Audio Visual room at 1:00 PM.The meeting start with a welcome speech by Basil Jose K of 1st BA English.There after,Devika B of the same class did the character presentation of the character 'Gulliver' of 'Gulliver's Travel' by Johnathan Swift.Lamuel Gulliver the narattor and protogonist in the book is someone who loves travelling.He embarks on four separate voyages in the work and he narrates the adventures that befall him on these travels.Finally,the meeting concluded with a vote of Thanks by Thomas Binu.

Meeting (6)

The sixth meeting of the Book Lovers' club was held on 4th September 2018, Tuesday in the Audio-Visual room at 1:00 PM. The meeting began with a welcome speech by Aathyra J Nair of first B.A. English. Then a new programme 'Character Presentation' was introduced and Feba Benny of first year English presented the character 'Najeeb' of "ആടുജീവിതം" by Benyamin. Najeeb Muhammed is an Indian emigrant going missing in Saudi Arabia and the novel is based on his real life events. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Devika B of first B.A. English.
